Bag 'n Hand Food Pantry
For I was hungry and you gave me food: Bag ‘n Hand Food Pantry is a food distribution center located at St. John’s United Methodist Church. Beginning in 2001, Bag ‘n Hand is operated entirely by volunteers as an outreach program of St. John’s and the Santa Fe interfaith community.
Mission Statement:
Our mission is to regularly provide bags of fresh and non-perishable food in a friendly and caring environment to hungry people in the Santa Fe community.
Where do we get the food?
The Bag ‘n Hand Food Pantry is a partner agency of The Food Depot which distributes food to all of Northern New Mexico. Each week our volunteers pick up fresh produce and breads as well as government commodity items from The Food Depot. Additional donations of food and funds are provided by St. John’s, the interfaith community and the community at large.
Who do we serve?
We presently serve an average of 225 families per week. Our clients range in age and degree of need. Some are single elderly or disabled on a fixed income, others are large families living on the edge of poverty. A small percentage is homeless.
How is the food distributed?
- Food is distributed each Tuesday and Thursday from 10 AM -12 noon (except holidays) to residents of Santa Fe County.
- There is no referral or proof of need required to receive food.
- Clients are asked to complete a short one-page form so that demographic information can be tracked and reported.
- A family may come once per week to receive bags of fresh and non-perishable foods to supplement their diet.
New volunteers are always welcome! If you are available to bag and hand out food or to do food pickups, please call St. John's at 505-982-5387 or email Dolph Bunkley bagnhand.pantry@hotmail.com
